How to post photos and videos on Instagram from desktop browser

Last month, Facebook-owned social media platform Instagram rolled out an update that allows you to post photos and videos directly from your desktop web browser. The feature is quite useful for content creators and influencers as it is now easier for them to share the content captured from a professional camera. Before the update, users were only able to scroll through the feed, direct message any other user, watch stories and use the search option on the web browser.

Although the company now allows you to post anything from your profile, you still can not share a Story from desktop web browsers. It is expected that the feature will also be added to the web browser interface soon as Facebook and Instagram use almost identical Story features and Facebook allows users to share Stories from desktop browsers.

Usually, people create a backup of their old photos and videos on their PCs. Now, It is easier for you to share those throwback posts directly without first sending the files to your smartphones first. Here’s how you can share a post on Instagram via desktop browser.


Go to on your desktop browser.


Login to your Instagram account via username and password. You can also login through you Facebook.


Click on the ‘+’ icon right next to the Direct Message icon at the top right corner of the page.


After you click on the ‘+’ icon, you can either drag images or videos that you want to share or you can click on the ‘Select from computer’ option.


You can now pick the files that you want to share from the File Explorer window and click on ‘Open’.


To crop or magnify the files selected, you can use the options at the bottom left corner of the image. Once you finalise on the file size, tap on ‘Next’.


On the next page you can apply filters on your files and make other adjustments such as brightness, contrast, saturation and more.


You can add caption, alternative text and location on the next page. Once you are ready to share the content, tap on ‘Share’.
