Sony Xperia PRO-I is here with a compact camera-grade 1″ image sensor and top-notch specs


The Sony Xperia PRO-I is a new 5G cameraphone that packs a compact camera-grade image sensor with a 1-inch optical format and 2.4µm pixel size. The sensor is paired with a sophisticated glass aspherical Zeiss Tessar lens with a 24 mm focal length equivalent and variable aperture – from f/2.0 to f/4.0. The optical elements of ZEISS lenses feature T* anti-reflective coating on all surfaces and an optical design that guarantees images of superior brilliance at all times, even in unfavorable lighting conditions. This camera outputs 12MP photos and is adjoined by a 12MP ultra-wide unit and a 12MP telephoto camera. The ultra-wide camera has a 16mm focal length equivalent and an f/2.2 aperture. The telephoto camera has a 50 mm focal length equivalent and an f/2.4 aperture. Finally, the rear camera setup is complemented by a 3D iToF sensor that instantly calculates the distance between the camera and your subject, ensuring fast, accurate autofocus in any scene. All 3 lenses support phase-detection AF. The camera’s photo and video processing are based on Sony’s Bionz X image signal processor which supports 315 PDAF points that cover 90% of the frame. The setup can shoot 4K videos at up to 120 fps and there are advanced professional shooting controls plus two physical camera buttons – a dedicated button for the Videography Pro app and a camera shutter button that works on two stages. Real-time Eye AF for photos and videos, Real-Time Tracking, Object Tracking for videos, 20fps burst shooting, Anti-distortion shutter, OIS, Multi-frame noise reduction, 12-bit RAW for smooth color gradation are some of the features that complement Sony Xperia PRO-I‘s camera capabilities.

As for the regular smartphone specifications, the Sony Xperia PRO-I is built around an advanced 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with HDR support, 100% DCI-P3 color space coverage, 10-bit color bit depth, and 120Hz refresh rate. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus while the rear shell is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The body is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance. It houses a 4500 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 888 chipset paired to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS expandable storage. As for gaming, the model supports PS Remote Play, DUALSHOCK 4 controls, and Game enhanced. There’s a Dynamic Vibration System as well. The from the camera has an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 lens, supporting HDR for photos and SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode (5-axis stabilization). The Sony Xperia PRO-I also arrives with Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certifications, featuring 360 Reality Audio hardware decoding, 360 Spatial Sound, full-stage stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, DSEE Ultimate, and stereo recording features. A 3.5 mm jack is also on board. The smartphone will go on sale in select European countries priced at EUR 1799.
